On June 11, 2025, Nintendo announced that the Switch 2 had sold more than 3.5 million units in just four days globally, making it the fastest-selling Nintendo console in history. Before the launch, some analysts were predicting that the Switch 2 could possibly become the biggest console launch ever.
Just yesterday, Gaming.news reported that the Switch 2’s sales performance in France has made it the biggest console launch in the country. A French sales insider reported that the console has sold more than 200,000 units within its first week and has toppled PlayStation 5’s 107,000 record of units sold within the same period.
Recently, Nintendo announced that it is making a spinoff Splatoon game for the Nintendo Switch 2 called Splatoon Raiders. With it, free updates for Splatoon 3 will be released for the Switch and the Switch 2. The update is slated for release on June 12.
While the console’s launch is proving to be successful, Nintendo and other retailers are still fighting against scalpers aiming to profit from the high demand of the Switch 2. As of writing, most Japanese retailers are still operating on a lottery system to avoid this.
