Key points
  1. The co-CEO of Build a Rocket Mark Gerhard had previously claimed that negative reviews were a collaborative effort to ruin the upcoming title.
  2. Mindseye publisher’s CEO stated that they do not believe in the alleged paid-for negative reactions to the game.
  3. IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak told IGN that the game should speak for itself on June 10.

Mindseye released on June 10, greeted by “Mixed” reviews on Steam. The title saw criticism for various optimization bugs that supposedly ruined the gameplay experience, according to Steam reviews. Chatting on the game’s official Discord, Gerhard claimed the criticism wasn’t organic — but rather the result of a deliberate campaign against the studio, orchestrated by paid actors and bot activity.

The statement has since resulted in further backlash towards the studio. To mitigate the long-term damage, Mindseye publisher’s CEO stated that they do not believe in the alleged paid-for negative reactions to the game.

In an interview with IGN, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak said that the game should speak for itself.

“I think we should all wait ’til the 10th of June because it’s very normal these times that we all as developers keep on working on patches and working to the last minute,” he told IGN.

“And there’s a lot of these things coming in. So I think that people should just wait until the release and have the best possible experience.”

As indicated before, the game’s official launch was not greeted positively by the community. Its early access reviews and full release reviews are in alignment, with both criticizing the game for its poor optimization, which ruins the gameplay experience.

The developers promised optimization improvements in the future.

Even paid sponsors for the title are struggling to support the game. One streamer’s game continued crashing during game bootup, prompting a cancellation of the sponsorship.

MindsEye is a third-person action-adventure described as a narrative-driven open-world game with shades of Grand Theft Auto. It features story missions, vehicular combat, and an in-game creation tool for building and sharing custom experiences. MindsEye released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
