Pokémon Finally Runs at 60FPS on Nintendo Switch 2

The last mainline Pokémon game to officially support consistent 60fps was Pokémon Emerald, a title that was released 20 years ago.
Footage of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet on the Switch 2 was revealed, showcasing the game running at a smooth 60fps. The video was revealed in the Nintendo Today app and later posted onto social media by third parties. The footage showcases substantial improvements from the Switch 1 version of the title, including wider draw distances, graphical enhancements and improved frame rates for the Switch 2 iteration of the game.
The last official Nintendo-published mainline Pokémon game to support 60fps was Pokémon Emerald, the final installment to the third generation of Pokémon for the GBA, which was released 20 years ago. No mainline Pokémon games for the DS, 3DS or the Nintendo Switch achieved 60 frames per second, although unofficial Switch emulation has accomplished the feat.

Nintendo Switch 2 releases on June 5, 2025. Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the next entry in the Pokémon franchise, is slated for release in late 2025 for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. The game features new mechanics, such as the player’s Pokémon dodging the opposing Pokémon’s moves by moving around and timing their moves to prevent damage or interrupt an attack.
