The creator of the Street Fighter 2 soundtrack, Yoko Shimomura, is back to the Street Fighter series with a new track for the sixth part of the franchise.
Capcom has confirmed via a post on the game’s X (formerly Twitter) that the video game composer, known for composing music scores for games such as Final Fantasy XV, Mario & Luigi, Xenoblade Chronicles, the Kingdom Hearts series, Streets of Rage, Super Mario RPG, Breath of Fire and Street Fighter II, has created a new track titled “Edge of Triumph” for Street Fighter 6, which will be added as part of a free update on June 5, 2025.
This marks the first time she’s composed an original track for the series since the original Street Fighter II soundtrack, which helped define the series’ sound in the early 1990s.
While Shimomura did contribute a rearrangement of Dhalsim’s theme for the Street Fighter Tribute Album in 2003, this is her first new piece for the franchise since the days of Guile’s and Ken’s stage themes.
“Edge of Triumph” will be accessible via the character BGM settings menu, where players can assign it to character stages or simply listen to it directly. The update drops alongside a major balance patch and the arrival of Elena, the final DLC character in Street Fighter 6’s Year 2 roadmap. Capcom also confirmed that Elena’s June 5 debut aligns with the launch of Street Fighter 6 on Nintendo Switch 2, which will ship with all Year 1 and Year 2 DLC fighters — including Elena — bundled in from day one.
Notably, Shimomura was recently honored with the BAFTA Fellowship, a lifetime achievement award and the British Academy’s highest accolade, joining a list of recipients that includes Shigeru Miyamoto, Hideo Kojima and Martin Scorsese.
