Key points
  1. People Can Fly is suspending two projects and downscaling its teams.
  2. The cancellation was attributed to a lack of communication between the team and the publisher.
  3. The studio’s latest non-VR game was Outriders, which was released in 2011.

On June 1, People Can Fly announced that it’s suspending two ongoing projects and will start downscaling its teams. The studio is behind games such as Gears of War: Judgment, Outriders and Bulletstorm.

People Can Fly attributed the suspension of the two projects to a lack of communication between the studio and the publisher. Project Gemini, for example, was suspended due to the publisher not presenting the team with a draft of the “subsequent content rider to the Publishing Agreement covering the terms and conditions of further milestones on project Gemini.”

Project Bifrost, on the other hand, suffered the same fate due to the same reasons, plus the lack of funds. While the studio did not specifically mention which publisher they’re working with in Project Gemini, it’s widely believed to be Square Enix.

The studio did not specifically mention layoffs, but downscaling means that there might be news in the near future regarding People Can Fly employees losing their jobs. In January, the studio laid off over 30 developers working on Project Gemini.

People Can Fly’s recent non-VR game is Outriders, released in 2011. It was published by Square Enix and has a 24-hour concurrent player peak on Steam of more than 400 players. At its release in April 2011, it had more than 125,000 players playing it concurrently.
