CD Projekt Red has announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will receive cross-platform mod support for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S later in 2025, marking the first time console players can access user-created mods for the game. According to GameSpot, the update, part of the game’s 10th anniversary celebrations, will utilize the Mod.io platform to enable mod sharing across PC and current-generation consoles.
To access mods on consoles, players will need to create a Mod.io account and link it to their CD Projekt Red profile. While PC players can continue using existing modding services like Nexus Mods and Steam Workshop, Mod.io will be required for console mod support. Not all PC mods will be available on consoles due to platform-specific guidelines and content restrictions.
Mod creation will remain exclusive to PC, with tools like CD Projekt Red’s REDkit recommended for the best compatibility. Mods involving scripts must be developed using REDkit to be eligible for console deployment.
Since its release in 2015, The Witcher 3 has sold over 60 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling video games of all time. CD Projekt Red is currently developing The Witcher 4, which will introduce a new trilogy featuring Ciri as the protagonist.
