Playtonic Games announced that they are laying off many developers – the layoffs are not a reflection of the developers’ individual talent or dedication, according to a social media post published by the studio, but a result of industry-wide shifts.

“Like others, we’ve felt the knock-on effects and after exploring every possible avenue, we’ve had to make the incredibly heartbreaking decision to say goodbye to some truly brilliant members of the Playtonic team,” the social media post reads.

Despite having laid the devs off, Playtonic sings praise for the workers, recommending other studios hire them if possible.

“We can’t speak highly enough of our departing team members. You’d be lucky to have them. To our industry friends who may be facing similar challenges, we send you our solidarity, strength, and hope for a brighter path forward. To everyone affected, thank you truly,” Playtonic concludes.

Playtonic Games is an indie studio that was established in 2014. They created Yooka-Laylee, a 3D platformer with multiple entries. The studio creates games for various platforms, including PlayStation, Steam, Xbox, Epic Games, Nintendo Switch, and Crunchyroll.
