MultiVersus has officially shut down—the game closed its doors on May 30 at 9 a.m. PT. The game has been unlisted on PlayStation, Microsoft, Steam, and Epic Games Stores. It is available to play offline for those who downloaded the latest version and logged into the game between February 4 and May 30. Otherwise, Multiverse is not readily playable at this point.
The devs thanked the players for their support:
“We want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey,” they wrote on the official blog post.
The title underwent an early access open beta period from July 2022 to June 2023; MultiVersus was fully released on May 28, 2024. During the year gap between early access and full release, MultiVersus was largely unavailable to play. The game achieved more than 100,000 concurrent players on Steam during its return, but this number dwindled as the game continued.
MultiVersus was a live-service free-to-play fighting game that drew inspiration from the Smash Bros series. Supporting cross-platform play, the title’s initial appeal was largely due to the low barrier of entry. The title featured various collaborations across various Warner Bros IPs.
