Elden Ring: Nightreign Gets Auto-Revives After Solo Player Backlash

|
- Patch 1.02 for Elden Ring: Nightreign will introduce one automatic revive per Nightlord fight for solo players.
- The update follows backlash from players frustrated by the lack of solo-friendly mechanics in the co-op-focused game.
- Despite technical issues and criticism, Nightreign reached 313,000 concurrent Steam players on launch day.
FromSoftware will introduce automatic revives for solo players during Nightlord battles in Elden Ring: Nightreign. The change comes in patch 1.02 next week as a response to community criticism over the game’s difficulty when played alone.
According to the developers, solo players will now receive one automatic revival per Nightlord encounter, aimed at easing the challenge for those not playing in co-op. Additionally, the patch will increase rune acquisition rates to support progression.
Despite multiple pre-release statements clarifying that Elden Ring: Nightreign was designed as a cooperative experience rather than a solo one, the game’s community has expressed frustration over the limited support for single-player expeditions. The backlash has persisted even though FromSoftware made it clear that solo play would not be the primary focus.
The criticism comes alongside a rocky technical launch. PC players have reported poor optimization on high-end rigs, severe frame-rate drops and instances where the game would not launch at all unless manual fixes were applied.
Still, Nightreign posted strong debut numbers, reaching a peak of 313,000 concurrent players on Steam within its first 24 hours. For comparison, the original Elden Ring peaked at around 950,000 concurrent players when it launched in 2022.
