Key points
  1. New Twitch widget lets streamers track deaths or nights survived in Nightreign.
  2. This is the first official tool for a longtime Soulslike streaming tradition.
  3. Exclusive Twitch rewards available until June 6 for viewers and creators.

Twitch has introduced a new global death-counter widget to coincide with the launch of Elden Ring: Nightreign, allowing streamers to publicly track how many times they — or the community at large — have reached the ‘You Died’ screen.

The tool is already available via the Twitch Creator Dashboard. It runs on an honor system — meaning that death-counter widget doesn’t automatically detect in-game deaths. Instead, streamers are expected to manually update the death count themselves — so it only works accurately if they truthfully report each time they die. The widget can display either the total number of collective deaths in Nightreign or the number of nights survived, depending on the streamer’s preference.

Death counters have long been a tradition of Soulslike streams, with hundreds of creators manually tracking their deaths as part of the challenge and entertainment. Twitch’s widget marks the first time an official tool has been released to automate the process, offering a built-in solution for a tradition that’s been community-driven for years.

The death counter arrives as part of a broader Twitch promotion celebrating the launch of FromSoftware’s latest title. Between May 29 and June 6, streamers and viewers can also unlock exclusive event rewards by engaging with Nightreign content. These include:

• Recluse Badge for co-streaming with another creator for at least 15 minutes.
• Wylder Badge for downloading and sharing a gameplay clip.
• Wylder Emote, a new global emote automatically available to all Twitch users.

FromSoftware’s Elden Ring: Nightreign officially launches May 30 on all major platforms. The game is a coop-oriented spiritual successor to the 2022 Elden Ring, which sold 30 million copies and remains FromSoftware’s most succesful title to date.

Earlier today the developers released a day-one rebalancing patch for Nightreign that fixes minor gameplay issues and warns PC players about platform-specific unresolved launch and performance issues.
