Microsoft has begun rolling out “Copilot for Gaming” in beta, a new AI-powered assistant built into the Xbox mobile app for iOS and Android. Copilot functions as a second-screen assistant, offering in-game support without interrupting active gameplay. It is intended to provide tips for difficult encounters, game mechanics, and recommendations, drawing on Xbox account data such as play history and achievements, as well as publicly available information from Bing.
In its current version, Copilot responds to questions about the active game, provides gameplay advice, and displays Xbox account information such as gamerscore, recent achievements, and Game Pass subscription status. It also offers game recommendations based on genre preferences or previous activity. The tool supports both text and voice input.
Microsoft’s replacement to Googling and friends on Discord is available in English to players aged 18+ in over 50 regions, including the U.S., Australia, Japan, and India. Android users can download the Xbox app beta via the Google Play Store, while iOS users with the beta version already installed can start testing immediately. Microsoft also plans to bring Copilot to Game Bar on Windows PCs and expand availability in future updates.
Microsoft first announced Copilot for Gaming in March 2025 as part of a broader push into AI-driven gaming tools. Among the other initiatives was Muse, the company’s proprietary AI model designed to generate games in real time. In April, Microsoft showcased Muse running Quake II to a mixed response from the industry.
