Hideo Kojima confirmed that an anime adaptation of Death Stranding is currently in the works. He mentioned this in an interview with Vogue Japan while talking about the live-action adaptation of the game.
Based on a machine translation of the Vogue Japan article, Kojima said that he aims to make the Death Stranding live-action film in a way that “can only be done as a film, and that will win awards at the Cannes Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival.”
He added that there is also an anime adaptation of the game currently being produced. Kojima said that he believes the boundary between games and movies will disappear.
The film adaptation of Death Stranding has been known for a couple of years now, with its first mention being somewhere around 2022. It was only this year that more information regarding the movie emerged, such as the partnership with A24 and that Michael Sarnoski will be the one to direct it.
Kojima has announced a release tour that aims to promote the upcoming release of Death Stranding 2. It will start on June 8, 2025, in Los Angeles, with the final location being Lucca, Italy in November. According to a press release, more information will be released about each stop of the tour. Death Stranding 2 is coming out on June 26, 2025, for the PlayStation 5.
