Apple has acquired RAC7, the developers behind Sneaky Sasquatch. The company calls this acquisition a “unique circumstance,” according to a report written by Digital Trends. However, it falls in line with several reports saying that Apple wants to strengthen its gaming strategy.

In a report by Bloomberg, they revealed that Apple is getting ready to introduce a new dedicated gaming app during the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9. The app will reportedly contain editorial content from Apple regarding new games and will also promote the Apple Arcade’s $6.99 subscription.

Additionally, a Mac version of the app will also be released that has access to games downloaded outside of the App Store. Bloomberg’s report stated that it will be preinstalled on iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple TVs later this year.

Apple has been trying to penetrate the video games market for quite some time now. It has added several Triple-A games to its catalog, including Resident Evil 7 and Assassin’s Creed Mirage. However, it wasn’t really successful with its implementation.

The new gaming-focused app is expected to debut in the next version of iOS. Bloomberg notes that while the app will make it easier for Apple products to be used as gaming devices, testers of the software believes that it won’t change the perception of the company in the video game market as developers and gamers as “many developers and players say that the Mac in particular leaves a lot to be desired compared with Windows computers.”
