Square Enix and HK Ten Tree Limited have settled a lawsuit that alleges Mecharashi stole assets from the former. Mecharashi is a tactical RPG made by BlackJack Studio, and HK Ten Tree Limited is trying to publish the game in the US.
In March 2025, Square Enix filed a lawsuit against HK Ten Tree Limited to block the publisher from making it available in the US. According to the lawsuit, Square Enix alleges BlackJack Studio has stolen assets from a cancelled game called Front Mission 2089: Borderscape. Square Enix collaborated with the studio before the game was canceled.
However, in October of the same year, BlackJack Studio released a game called Macharacshi in Japan and China, which Square Enix alleges has assets from the cancelled game. Automaton wrote that while the assets were made by BlackJack Studios, their ownership still falls under Square Enix, hence the lawsuit.
The outlet also said that fans of the game on Reddit noticed that the developers have reworked some icons and in-game assets. Presumably, because of Square Enix’s lawsuit.
Currently, Mecharashi’s release date is unknown. Its Steam page indicates that it’s “coming soon,” but the developers have not announced a release window for it. Mecharashi is available on iOS, Android, and PC.
