One Piece Rip-Off Games Appear on Nintendo Switch Store Despite Company’s Strict Copyright Regulations

|
- One Piece rip-off shovelware games have popped up on the Nintendo eShop.
- This sent Japanese fans to wonder how they passed Nintendo’s screening.
- Shovelware games are low-quality games and typically filled with AI-generated content.
Shovelware games with a very similar art style to Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece, despite the fact that Nintendo is quite possibly the most one of the strictest companies when it comes to copyright regulations.
Nintendo fans have spotted games Pirate Anime Quest: One Boys’ Journey, A Piece of Island Love, and Pirate Anime Quest: One Girls’ Journey, A Piece of Island Love on the Nintendo eShop, which contains AI-generated images akin to Eiichiro Oda’s art style. Both games feature some kind of dating simulation gameplay, with their descriptions suggesting “daring images and endings as fiery as they are unpredictable.”

The game’s publisher, Red Fables, has been uploading games similar to this since 2022. They’re classified under shovelware, which means they’re games of very low quality, usually filled with AI-generated content, and are only there to mislead people through false advertising.
Automaton’s report regarding the existence of the two games mentioned above mentions that Japanese users have been posting them on X, asking Nintendo to screen the games being added to the eShop properly.
As of the writing of this piece, the games are still on the eShop. They will be released on May 29, 2025, and are available for pre-order should any Nintendo fan want to experience playing a shovelware game.
