Valve has released the first version of SteamOS 3.7 to the Stable channel, featuring official support for third-party portable devices from Lenovo and Asus.
With the new update, SteamOS now features official support for the Lenovo Legion Go S and improved support for other AMD-powered handhelds like the ROG Ally by Asus and the original Legion Go.
Besides that, SteamOS was updated to a newer Arch Linux base and added support for frame limiting with VRR displays (internal and external).
SteamOS 3.7.8 updated the Linux kernel to 6.11, updated the Mesa graphics driver base, and desktop mode now ships with Plasma 6.2.5.
Users can now set a maximum battery charge limit for the Steam Deck. Setting a limit, such as 80%, can help extend long-term battery health. Valve highlighted that this feature is especially useful if the device is frequently plugged in (like when docked) or if the battery is seldom drained completely.
On top of that, Valve added support for the Proteus Byowave controller and fixed a connection issue with the Switch Pro controller.
Users can test SteamOS on AMD-powered handhelds using the SteamOS recovery image and following the instructions provided by Valve.
