  3. Embracer Group announced that it’s closing down Campfire Cabal in August 2023.

On May 20, 2025, Campfire Cabal published a press release entitled “Still Alive.” The studio revealed that it is still operating despite the Embracer Group saying it would be shutting down as part of a restructuring process.

Campfire Cabal said that while it has been silent for about two years, it is still hard at work. The studio is currently making the next installment of the Expedition series. Campfire Cabal also claimed responsibility for updating Expeditions: Rome.

According to the studio, it still can’t say much about the game it’s currently working on. However, it only received the green light to scale up and transition into full production at the end of March 2025. “We are extremely grateful that there were people within the group who fought to keep us alive through the turmoil, and that we can now emerge on the other side with renewed vigour,” said the team.

In August 2023, Embracer Group announced that it would be closing Campfire Cabal as part of the group’s restructuring process. However, the studio posted on LinkedIn, saying that the shutdown was “from a purely financial standpoint.” Additionally, it mentioned that it was looking for ways to find a “good resolution to this situation.”

In January 2022, Campfire Cabal released Expeditions: Rome, a turn-based RPG where players are given the opportunity to shape the future of Rome. It currently has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam and had an all-time peak concurrent players of 9,765.
