Doom: The Dark Ages Launches With ‘Very Positive’ Steam Reviews and 30K Online

Doom: The Dark Ages has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam upon its launch with 4,287 reviews and an online peak of 30,232 players, according to SteamDB.
Developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks, Doom: The Dark Ages is the eighth main entry in the franchise and the third installment of the modern series, succeeding Doom Eternal (2020). The game is set many years prior to the events of Doom (2016).
According to Steam Scout, the language of reviews on Steam, as of the time of writing, is as follows: 66.3% of the reviews are in English, 11.66% in Simplified Chinese, 7.1% in Russian, 2.1% in Spanish and 1.9% in German.
Released for PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X|S, Doom: The Dark Ages got an 85 score on Metacritic.
As was earlier reported by Gaming.News, Doom: The Dark Ages features two new major gameplay additions:
- Ready to soar across the game’s maps, the cybernetic dragon with mounted Gatling guns is able to drill through anything standing in its way and an exterminating fire breath.
- A 30-story-tall mech called the Atlan, rigged with weaponry scaled to dominate Titan-sized enemies.
The game is available on day one on Xbox subscription plans Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass for Cloud, PC and Xbox Series X|S.
Notably, the game’s Twitch Drops are live from now until June 2, 2025, and let players earn the Guardian Doom Slayer skin, which comes with the Slayers Club Shield as well. To claim Twitch Drop rewards for Doom: The Dark Ages, players need to link their Twitch and Bethesda accounts and then watch at least one hour of any participating streamer. Most top streams during the event will have Drops enabled; it can be determined by the “Drops Enabled” tag and a notification at the top of the chat. After watching, players can simply redeem their code.
The launch of the eighth main entry in the franchise comes on the heels of the release of 666 boxes by Limited Run Games that can run Doom as an homage to a long-lasting mass experiment under the hashtag #itrunsdoom.
