The news comes shortly after the announcement of the cancelation of the development of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link.
A new game based on original intellectual property will be created in collaboration with the Japanese game developer and publisher Square Enix and Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS), the network behind the Ninja Warrior show, Ultraman and Takeshi’s Castle.
The announcement, which was made via a press release on May 14, 2025, doesn’t provide any details besides the statement that the new original IP will be created by combining the efforts of both companies in the entertainment field.
As of the time of writing, Square Enix has three more previously announced projects to deliver: Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, which is set for release in 2025 for PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5; Dragon Quest XII; and Kingdom Hearts IV.
Besides that, the company’s annual report for the end of the fiscal year reveals that Square Enix is continuing to focus on its multiplatform strategy despite the fact that the company’s single-player games have shown a year-on-year drop in sales. At the same time, profits of the company’s MMOs have increased, most notably due to the release of the Final Fantasy XIV expansion, Dawntrail, on June 28, 2024.
The news comes shortly after the announcement of the cancelation of the development of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link.
