Population Studies Reveal 7.7 Million of German Gamers Are Aged 60+

Germany is seeing an increase in the total number of gamers older than the age of 60, as according to YouGov Shopper, Nielsen IQ, and data.ai. According to the stats, there are currently 7.7 million elderly German gamers. The figure represents an increase in 1.3 million from the prior year, and contributes to the grand total of 37.5 million German gamers. The same study states that 59% of Germans aged 6 to 69 play games, 79% of whom are aged 18 or over.
“Games fascinate millions of people in Germany – young and old, women and men. The majority of Germans have been playing games for a long time and the number is increasing. The steadily rising average age of gamers is also exciting: we are fast approaching the age of 40,” Felix Falk said, Managing Director of Game at The German Games Industry Association, the organization that commissioned the data.
Every method of statistical analysis is not explicitly stated, but the official website does state that YouGov Shopper conducted a survey of 25,000 consumers, who “are representative of the German population regarding their video game purchasing and usage habits.”
The German Games Industry Association was established in 2018 through a merger of two previous associations. One of their main missions is to serve as an advocate for everything in gaming, from game developers, publishers, esports organizations and more.
