- Katsuhiro Harada, Tekken 8’s director, has revealed that he’s been trying to reach out to Waffle House for the past year.
- He said that the restaurant still has not replied, and not receiving a reply is a “very rare case.”
- Tekken 8 partnered with Chipotle last year.
Tekken 8 director Katsuhiro Harada revealed via an X post that he’s reached out to Waffle House to collaborate with the restaurant for the past year. However, he still has not received a reply from them and calls their silence a “very rare case.”
“Over the past year or more, I’ve actually tried to make contact through several different channels. However, and this is purely my own speculation, I suspect that the lack of response may be due to the fact that the project I’m known for revolves around ‘fighting-themed video games,’” his post read.
What started as a meme came to life when Harada asked why he kept receiving requests to add Waffle House as a stage in Tekken last year. After the community explained why, he published another social media post saying that he’s considering it but needs to have the permission of the restaurant chain first.
Hopping back to the present time, since Harada still hasn’t heard from them, he’s now considering other avenues. He suggested that if it’s fine for the community, he proposed that they might use a different name or format “as long as the core message is maintained.” He even put forth the name “Hustle House” as his first suggestion.
The fighting game community isn’t exactly new to partnering with food chains. In 2024, Tekken 8 collaborated with Chipotle, a popular Mexican restaurant in the US. Early last month, fighting game commentator Stephen “Sajam” Lyon also announced that his partnership with Chipotle is back for 2025.
