Palworld Gliding Mechanics Changed Due to Ongoing Legal Battle With Nintendo

|
- Palworld developers changed the game’s gliding mechanics due to the ongoing legal battle with Nintendo.
- Late last year, the developers did the same with Pals and Pal Spheres.
- Nintendo first filed the lawsuit in September 2024.
The developers of Palworld, Pocketpair, recently released a patch changing the way gliders work in the game. The change was accompanied by a short X post talking about the recent legal proceedings happening between Pocketpair and Nintendo.
Pocketpair released patch v0.3.11 for Palworld in November 2024, which removed a Palworld feature where players can summon Pals by throwing a Pal Sphere. Instead, it was replaced by a static summon. The X post confirmed that this change is also because of the legal battle.
Now, patch v0.5.5 will introduce another compromise. According to the patch notes on Steam, players are now unable to use Pals as gliders. The only thing that can glide now are gliders, with Pals taking a step back and only providing passive partner skills.
In September 2024, Nintendo published a press release on its website about how Palworld “infringes multiple patent rights.” The same month, Nintendo filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair.
Palworld was released in January 2024 for the PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. A PlayStation 5 version followed in September of the same year, topped with a macOS version coming out in March 2025. Its latest big patch is v0.5.0, which introduced the much-awaited crossplay feature.
