The Citizen Sleeper franchise is celebrating a milestone of over 2 million players three years after its initial game was released on May 5, 2022.
The first title in the series, the role-playing video game Citizen Sleeper by Jump Over The Age, was published by Fellow Traveller for macOS and Windows PCs, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 4 and 5.
In the game, players follow a character called “Sleeper,” a human whose mind has been digitized and has been put into a robot body to be controlled by the Essen-Arp corporation but escapes to a space station called the Eye to fight for both survival and freedom. The game features multiple endings depending on the player’s choices.
Citizen Sleeper won the “Social Impact Award” at the 23rd Game Developers Choice Awards and also got four honorable mentions across different categories at other industry-praising events.
Notably, as of the time of writing, the game featured a “Very Positive” Steam rating with 6,415 user reviews.
Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector, which was developed and published by the same teams on Jan. 31, 2025, landed on the same platforms except Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Set in the aftermath of the first game, the sequel takes place in the Starward Vector, a region of the Helion System’s asteroid belt now controlled by a powerful corporation. Here, human-like androids known as “Sleepers” are exploited for manual labor. One Sleeper unexpectedly gains consciousness and breaks free from its corporate masters, only to fall into the hands of a ruthless criminal gang. After making a desperate attempt to escape by rewriting its program at the cost of a severely damaged body and no memory, the Sleeper must rely on their luck to escape and build a future where they can live freely.
The second part of the series also features a “Very Positive” rating with 1,178 reviews.
As a nod to the series’ tabletop roots and the strategic dice-rolling gameplay mechanic, Jump Over The Age released Citizen Sleeper: Spindlejack, a free-for-download two-page solo tabletop RPG.
