8BitDo Stops Shipping New Items to US Due to Tariffs

- 8BitDo, a gaming peripheral manufacturer, is ceasing shipments to the US due to tariffs imposed on China.
- The company’s case isn’t unique; CMON and Anbernic are two other gaming companies that have stopped shipping their products to the US.
- 8BitDo has not mentioned when shipments will resume.
8BitDo, a gaming peripheral manufacturer, is ceasing shipments to the US due to tariffs imposed on China. According to its website, 8BitDo will only sell to US customers items that are already at its warehouse in the United States.
According to Polygon, the temporary suspension of shipments to the US is due to the Trump administration’s 145% tariffs on imports from China. Since 8BitDo’s products ship mostly from China, it is being hit badly by the tariffs.
US customers can still order items from 8BitDo; however, the selection is limited. Polygon mentions that while there’s no way to see what items are available at the US warehouse, customers can see what products can’t be shipped to the US after inputting an address.
8BitDo’s case isn’t unique. Tariffs are affecting the whole gaming industry. For example, CMON announced layoffs and stopped all future game development on April 24 due to the tariffs. CMON has been one of the most popular publishers of tabletop games in recent years.
Anbernic, a handheld console manufacturer focusing on making its products look retro, has also stopped shipping consoles to the US as of April 22.
The pause in shipment by 8BitDo is temporary, but it did not announce when it will be able to resume and restock its US warehouse.
