Throes of the Watchmaker, a free DLC for Sea of Stars, is set for release on May 20, 2025, according to an official statement from the game’s developer and publisher, Sabotage Studio.

This new chapter brings back Watchmaker, architect of the Clockwork Castle and creator of Wheels, a tabletop pastime of Sea of Stars’ world. The upcoming DLC will invite players to explore Watchmaker’s new ambitious creation, Horloge, a miniature clockwork world now under threat from a mysterious cursed carnival.

To adapt to Horloge’s strange rules, protagonists Zale and Valere shed their familiar combat roles for brand-new classes. Zale trades in his sword for juggling tricks, while Valere becomes an acrobatic dynamo. Alongside them joins Artificer, a new playable party member with mechanized limbs and a laser rifle.

The DLC features entirely new environments, puzzles and enemies, with a cinematic presentation on par with the base game. It’s been crafted as a post-credits journey, perfect for both New Game+ players and newcomers.

The new chapter in Sea of Stars is backed by a soundtrack from the core game’s lead composer, Eric W. Brown, alongside new compositions from legendary guest composer Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger), continuing their collaboration from the main game.

Sea of Stars is a 2023 role-playing game set primarily on an archipelago of islands in a fantasy world. In this title, players control either Valere or Zale, Solstice Warriors who use the power of the sun and the moon on a quest to destroy powerful monsters called Dwellers and to stop the immortal alchemist who created them. The title is available on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5|4 and PC via Steam.

The game by Sabotage Studio won “Best Indie Game” at Golden Joystick Awards 2023, “Best Independent Game” at The Game Awards 2023, “Game, Original Role Playing” award at the 2023 NAVGTR Awards and also got three honorable mentions in different categories at the 2024 Game Developers Choice Awards.

As of the time of writing, Sea of Stars has reached 6 million players across all platforms and a “Very Positive” Steam rating with 9,717 reviews.
