Key points
  1. Over ten years after launch, and four earls later than Xbox Series X|S, Far Cry 4 on the PlayStation 5 is running at 60fps.
  2. In recent years, Ubisoft has also enhanced the frame rate of the Syndicate, Origins and Odyssey titles from the Assassin’s Creed series.
  3. As of March 2020, Far Cry 4 has sold over 10 million copies globally.

Far Cry 4 has received a new update more than a decade after its original release on Nov. 18, 2014, enabling it to run at 60fps on the PlayStation 5.

Notably, the game has been running at 60fps on Xbox Series X since 2021, when Microsoft introduced its FPS Boost feature and applied it to multiple titles, including Far Cry 4.

The fourth main installment in the Far Cry series is a first-person shooter game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft and the successor to the 2012 Far Cry 3. Set in the fictional Himalayan country of Kyrat, the game follows Ajay Ghale, a young Kyrati-American, who becomes caught in a Civil war between Kyrat’s Royal Army, controlled by the tyrannical king Pagan Min, and a rebel movement called the Golden Path.

Ubisoft has been enhancing several of its older games in recent years by boosting their frame rates. In 2023, the company released a 60fps update for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, making it smoother to play on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S through backward compatibility. This patch also upgraded the resolution to 4K on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X. Back in 2022, Ubisoft rolled out a similar 60fps update for Assassin’s Creed Origins. Even earlier, it introduced 60fps support for the 2018 Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, also for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S via backward compatibility.

Far Cry 4 update is coming along with the enhancement of Steam achievements for Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist.

Also, within Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass update, Far Cry 4 will become available on the Cloud, Console, and PC starting on April 30, 2025, for subscribers of Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass and Game Pass Standard plans.

As of March 2020, Far Cry 4 has sold over 10 million copies worldwide, solidifying its status as one of Ubisoft’s most successful titles during the eighth generation of video game consoles.
