Cygames announced that Umamusume: Pretty Derby is finally coming to the rest of the world on June 26. The game was announced almost a year ago on June 24, 2024, but did not receive a release date until recently. Alongside the release date announcement, the studio also revealed that both the Japanese version and the global version of the game will be playable on Steam.
Umamusume: Pretty Derby has been a staple in Cygames’ portfolio of gacha games. According to a site that tracks the revenue of gacha games, it ranked fifth in overall revenue in March 2025. Keep in mind that while other gacha games on the list have their global revenue tracked, Umamusume’s revenue only includes Japan.
According to the Japanese magazine Friday, the game’s revenue helped Abema secure the broadcasting rights to handle the Japanese coverage of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The article mentioned that the rights fee was estimated to be around 20 billion Japanese yen, or $139 million. Both Cygames and Abema are subsidiaries of CyberAgent.
Umamusume: Pretty Derby is a racing simulation game where girls on legendary racehorses compete against one another. The gameplay loop revolves around training, racing and gacha mechanics, which involve rolling for characters that players like.
The game was released in Japan in February 2021. Umamusume: Pretty Derby is currently available on Android and iOS, with the aforementioned Steam version releasing the same day as the global version.
