- ArenaNet celebrates the 20th anniversary of Guild Wars by releasing a masterpiece collection.
- The masterpiece collection contains the three main campaigns of the original game, its only expansion, and a few other items.
- Guild Wars was first launched in 2005, with servers still functioning to this date.
ArenaNet announced in a blog post that the team will release Guild Wars: the 20th Anniversary Masterpiece Collection. In addition to this, they are also bringing back some retrospective items from Guild Wars to the Guild Wars 2 Gem Store.
It’s worth noting that the 20th Anniversary Masterpiece Collection is a bundle of three full campaigns, the only expansion of the first game, and a few other bonuses. It is different from Guild Wars 2. Like the second game, Guild Wars is an MMORPG and will not require a subscription fee.
Regarding returning Homage items to Guild Wars 2, the only ones mentioned are these:
- Gwen’s Attire
- Primeval Dervish Outfit
- Storm Bow Skin
- Bone Dragon Staff Skin
- Peacock Skin
The developers also wanted to remind players that other items can be crafted and earned in Guild Wars 2 that came from the original game. The homage items in the Gem Store are given a 20% discount and will be available until April 29.
Guild Wars also got an update on April 15, which allows players to get various weapons that can only be obtained through pre-orders or special promotions before. Weapons that could only be acquired through the PvP reward systems have also been added to the loot tables across different maps. These weapons have a low drop rate and will only be rare in quality.
New items are also being added with the suffix that mentions a profession in the game. According to the patch notes, it’s going to be a main-handed weapon and will increase the mentioned profession’s primary attribute stat up to a small limit. The weapon will also have a special streak effect when players use it in combat.
Guild Wars was released back in 2005 for the PC, and the servers are still up to this date. According to WIRED, it was the first MMORPG to adopt a monetization model not based on monthly subscription fees. The game was well received by critics and picked up a score of 89/100 on Metacritic. Its sequel, Guild Wars 2, was released in 2012.
