Larian Studio Says Goodbye to Baldur’s Gate 3 After Final Patch Update

After around two years of live-service updates, Baldur’s Gate 3 is halting content – the latest patch 8 serves as the final patch update. Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 released on April 15, bringing cross-platform play, new subclasses, and a photo mode.
Larian studio shared their sentiments in a patch blog post.
“This is it. Our final major game patch for Baldur’s Gate 3,” they announced.
“You’ve helped us make BG3 a bigger success than any of us could’ve ever hoped for, and that passion could keep us tweaking things and making changes until the end of time. But then we’d never be able to create something new.”
Larian Studio “won’t be adding any new narrative content or significant changes to storylines, Origin characters, or companions,” as they’ve told their stories “the way [they] needed to tell them.”
The studio stated that they are taking community feedback to heart, and will use the input on future titles. But in order to actually work on new titles, they need to redirect their efforts.
“It’s time for the team to go back to our cave and hang the armour on the wall while we focus on bringing you our next project,” Larian concluded – hyping up the community but giving little to no information as to what their next title will be.
Baldur’s gate 3 released in August of 2023, and earned numerous awards across various award ceremonies – most notably earning The Game Award Game of the Year alongside BAFTA Games Award for Best Game. The title sold over 15 million copies, a number reported by IGN.
