Key points
  1. Fortnite Reload Performance Evaluation Cup in OCE and Asia was cancelled by Epic Games.
  2. A bug was causing bots to fill up lobbies, thereby decreasing competitive integrity.
  3. The announcement was made on X on April 9.

Epic Games canceled the Fortnite Reload Performance Evaluation Cup in OCE and ASIA — the announcement was made on Twitter on April 9. The primary reason for cancellation was a bug that caused bots to fill into the match.

“We are canceling today’s OCE and ASIA Relaod performance Evaluation cups while we work to resolve an issue with non-player Bot opponents filing into the match,” the Twitter post reads.

Bots entering an esport tournament destroys the competitive integrity, as the in-built mechanics surrounding the battle royal format become compromised by farmable AI. Only OCE and ASIA Reload Performance Evaluation Cups have been affected thus far — but if Epic Games fails to resolve the issue, the cancellation may bleed into other regions.

The Fortnite Reload Performance Evaluation Cup consists of 40 players, who are divided into squads. This format differs from the traditional 100 player match — Reload utilizes a smaller map as well, and a different revive mechanic from the typical Fortnite match. Instead of needing to revive allies, as long as a member is alive on the squad players can rejoin the match. This mechanic becomes disabled after a certain amount of time passes in the game.

Reload is much smaller in competitive scale when compared to the FNCS tournaments, as the game mode itself is catered towards a more casual player base. The game mode released on June 22, 2024.
