Team Cherry marketing representative Matthew Griffin announced that Hollow Knight: Silksong is releasing on both the original Nintendo Switch alongside the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The news follows Silksong’s very short teaser in the Switch 2 direct, where its 2025 release schedule was announced.
As for the official release date, as in the specific day, Team Cherry has not made an announcement yet – but it is expected to release after the Nintendo Switch 2’s release, which is on June 5, 2025. No information regarding the differences between the Switch 1 and Switch 2 versions was revealed.
Nintendo has marketed upgraded versions of preexisting titles, such as Breath of the Wild and Hogwarts Legacy – these versions boast higher performance, catered towards the Switch 2’s performance capabilities. Whether or not Team Cherry has committed to a similar release plan across current and previous gen consoles remains to be seen.
Originally planned as downloadable content for the popular platformer Hollow Knight, the upcoming Hollow Knight: Silksong has grown into a standalone sequel. Hollow Knight sold over 6.4 million copies on Steam, with its Nintendo Switch debut seeing over 250,000 units sold in its first two weeks.
Developed by Team Cherry, the highly anticipated project was announced six years ago and has since expanded in scope. While Microsoft previously indicated a 2023 release, the game did not launch. Silksong is slated for release on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch 1/2. The game is currently one of the most wish-listed titles on the Steam platform.
