Nintendo Reveals New Details of Switch 2 Exclusive The Duskbloods by FromSoftware

More details about The Duskbloods, FromSoftware’s exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2, were unveiled in Nintendo’s Creator’s Voice blog with Hidetaka Miyazaki.
With The Duskbloods, which was recently revealed at Nintendo Direct, FromSoftware, the studio behind such titles as Dark Souls, Elden Ring, and Sekiro, moves to PvPvE-focused online multiplayer combat. However, Miyazaki emphasized that while the new IP is multiplayer-focused, it is not a sign that FromSoftware is abandoning its single-player roots.
Within Nintendo’s Creator’s Voice blog episode, Hidetaka explained that characters controlled by the player in the new game are known as Bloodsworn, a group whose members have achieved super-human abilities through the power of special blood. On top of that, he added that there will be over 12 different customizable characters to choose from.
In general, Bloodsworn characters are similar to vampires in the conventional sense, but they are not portrayed as insidious and cruel beings as the studio turned the spotlight on the romantic side of traditional vampirism, highlighting only the “blood” concept and reinterpreting it in a story where Bloodsworn competing for something known as First Blood.
It is worth noting that The Duskbloods will feature maps styled in different eras, from Gothic and Victorian to the early modern period. The game is not fixed to any era or location as, according to the title’s lore, outlined by the game’s director, globally, the place of action is set in an event known as the Twilight of Humanity, the end of human society. Multiple Bloodsworn creatures are summoned to the Twilight of Humanity across a variety of different times and places in a bid to obtain First Blood.
Miyazaki also hinted at firearms and distance attack weapons being added in The Duskbloods, unlike the previous studious titles.
As for the gameplay, online multiplayer will support up to 8 players in a single lobby. Generally, it will be the last player standing matches, sometimes replaced with a task to team up against the specific boss or other circumstances that are yet to be unveiled.
On top of that The Duskbloods implements Victory Points, which will determine the outcome of a match. Hidetaka Miyazaki said that obtaining Victory Points would be possible not only via direct combat but didn’t name the other ways of gathering them. Besides that, each character will be able to summon an entity to assist in combat. Also, The Duskbloods will feature an event system.
Hidetaka also told Nintendo about the role system that will determine interactions and relationships between players. As he explained, if one of the players obtains the Destined Rivals role before the start of the match, another player will be designated as a rival and tasked with finding and defeating the gamer who obtained the role. These roles could be assigned to any character via blood customization.
The previous big installment from Hidetaka Miyazaki and FromSoftware, Elden Ring, has sold over 28.6 million copies worldwide, including both the base game and its DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, according to the latest estimates of December 2024.
