- Wizards of the Coast backpedaled on a DMCA takedown notice they issued against Baldur’s Village, a Stardew Valley mod.
- They said it was a mistake and that they are working on fixing it.
- Baldur’s Village mod has been under moderation since March 29.
Baldur’s Village, the Stardew Valley mod that puts Baldur’s Gate 3 characters into the game, was issued a DMCA takedown notice. However, according to a statement, it was all a mistake.
PC Gamer reports that the Nexus Mod page of Baldur’s Village is under moderation, and it was due to Wizards of the Coast (WOTC) sending them a takedown notice.
Later, after publishing the article, PC Gamer received a statement from WOTC regarding the takedown of Baldur’s Village. According to the statement, it was all a mistake. “The Baldur’s Village DMCA takedown was issued mistakenly—we are sorry about that. We are in the process of fixing that now so fans and the Stardew community can continue to enjoy this great mod!”
The mod was uploaded to NexusMods on March 8, 2025. It even received recognition from Larian Studio’s CEO, Swen Vincke. He has also expressed disapproval regarding the issuance of a takedown notice, saying that free quality fan mods shouldn’t be treated like commercial ventures. “There are good ways of dealing with this,” he said. Larian Studios is behind the creation of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Wizards of the Coast has been previously caught doing unpalatable things in the eyes of gamers, including using AI in promotional images after saying that the artists they hire should not use AI art generation in their creation process. However, it’s worth noting that the latter refers to Dungeons & Dragons, not Magic: The Gathering, the game the promotional images were made for.
The Baldur’s Village mod has been under moderation since March 29. There is no news regarding when the page will be back and allow players to download the mod. Xun, one of the developers of the mod, has not said anything about the takedown on their Twitter account either.
