- GeoGuessr is coming to Steam in April, featuring only Solo Duels and Unranked Team Duels.
- Solo Duels will be free until the player is out of the Amateur Division, while the Unranked Team Duels will be free indefinitely.
- GeoGuessr was first released for the browser in 2013.
On March 25, GeoGuessr announced that they are bringing the geography guessing game to Steam. The game’s early access will include Solo Duels and Unranked Team Duels only.
The announcement came from GeoGuessr’s official Twitter account. An important thing to note is that the GeoGuessr account made in Steam is separate from the account on the web and mobile app edition of GeoGuessr. Despite this, Steam and Browser editions of the game will feature cross-play.
Competitive Solo Duels will be completely free in the Steam edition until the player gets out of the Amateur Division. After that, players will have to buy a GeoGuessr Steam Pass available in the game to continue playing competitively. Unranked Team Duels, on the other hand, will be free indefinitely.
Regarding the GeoGuessr Steam Pass, the Steam page states it will only grant you full access to the GeoGuessr Steam Edition. It is not equivalent to a subscription offered in the Web edition of the game. Additionally, a web edition subscription will not give players full access to the Steam edition.
GeoGuessr was first released for the browser in 2013 and garnered significant attention when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. In 2024, the game switched to a subscription model. The Steam edition of the game is set to come out in April.
