Game Informers is back after having been shut down during summer of last year. The media publishing company was acquired by Godzilla Games, which allowed them to relaunch. The company plans on returning to both physical print and digital magazines.
They made their return announcement on various official social media accounts, stating that they “have the keys back to all the accounts.” The company was slightly rebranded as Game Informer Inc – they claim that the company will operate as a completely independent entity.
“Independence has been foundational for Game Informer ever since it started in the 90s, and it will continue to be a sacred element of our operations going forward,” they shared in a YouTube Video. “All of Game Informer’s editorial content is 100% selected by our editorial team, without any outside influence including the new managers.”
Many of the original staff, including editors and writers, returned to the company. Game Informers was founded in 1991, and served as a staple for reliable news coverage within the gaming community. The company was originally owned by FuncoLand, which was later acquired by GameStop in 2000.
GameStop incorporated Game Informers’ monthly physical release publications as a part of their loyalty reward program; the parent company ultimate shut Game Informers down in August of 2024. The publication’s online articles were scrapped after the shut down, replaced with a “farewell” page. Even after relaunching, Game Informer’s older online archive appears to no longer viewable by the public.
