Key points
  1. Monster Hunter Wilds sales mostly came from Steam.
  2. The game has also topped the Best-Selling Games List of February 2025 of PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
  3. Monster Hunter was a game that only recently stopped being a console exclusive.

In a series of BlueSky posts, Circana Analyst and Executive Director Mat Piscatella reveals that more than half of Monster Hunter Wilds’ sales came from Steam. Additionally, the game is also the best selling game of February 2025 on all platforms it is available in.

Piscatella took to BlueSky to report his findings about February 2025 video game sales. Aside from Monster Hunter Wilds blasting the competition, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has also entered the conversation sporting a top 2 finish. Piscatella also mentioned that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s launch month sales were five times higher than the first game.

Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 takes the third place and PGA Tour 2K25 takes the fourth. Avowed has also entered the top 10 best-selling games of February 2025. It sits at seventh place, a place higher than Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. Interestingly, Minecraft has also appeared in the list at eleventh place.

In terms of most played games on Steam, Monster Hunter Wilds ranks third. Marvel Rivals and Counter-Strike 2 took first and second place, respectively. Balatro, the only indie game on the list, snatches fifth place.

Monster Hunter Wilds topping the best-selling game list of all platforms–except for the Nintendo Switch, because it’s not available there–shows the growth of the franchise.

The very first Monster Hunter was released in 2004 for the PlayStation 2 and stayed as a console exclusive until Monster Hunter World came out in January 2018. Even then, the PC version of the game was released after 8 months and doesn’t feature cross-play.

Monster Hunter Wilds is Capcom’s first Monster Hunter game that featured cross-play and same-day launch which means that players can now hunt with their friends regardless of what consoles they are using.

Monster Hunter Wilds was released on February 28, 2025. Its release shattered records, reaching over a million concurrent players on Steam, making it the fifth-highest in the platform’s history.
