Key points

  1. Supercell has stealthily launched mo.co, a multiplayer monster-hunting game with an invite-only system.
  2. The game introduces players to a futuristic monster-hunting startup, where they battle Chaos Monsters.
  3. Supercell remains one of the most profitable mobile developers in the world.

Supercell has stealth-launched mo.co, a new multiplayer monster-hunting game, relying solely on word-of-mouth to build its player base. The game is currently available by invitation only, with access granted through in-game referrals. Players can earn invites after reaching level 5, allowing them to bring others into the game via social media or Discord using the hashtag #joinmoco.

mo.co introduces players to a world filled with Chaos Monsters, blending fast-paced combat with a stylish, futuristic aesthetic. The game’s onboarding message welcomes players as new recruits in a startup dedicated to monster hunting, weapon development, and research into Chaos Energy.

In a conversation with our reporter at GDC, a Supercell representative said the invite-only model helps them gather feedback from a smaller, more engaged player base before expanding further. With no marketing push (except for several tweets so far) and a focus on organic community growth, mo.co marks a unique approach for Supercell, a company known for huge marketing campaigns and hits like Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, Boom Beach, and Hay Day.

The Finnish studio, majority-owned by Tencent, has consistently ranked among the highest-earning mobile developers, generating over $2 billion in annual revenue. Clash of Clans alone has surpassed $10 billion in lifetime earnings, while Supercell’s games have collectively amassed hundreds of millions of players worldwide.
