- Roblox introduces Cube 3D, an open-source AI tool for generating 3D objects and environments from text prompts.
- Roblox’s Cube 3D also includes a beta launch of its mesh generation API, now available in Roblox Studio.
- In 2024, Roblox Corporation’s annual revenue reached $3.6 billion.
Cube 3D, a generative AI system designed to create 3D objects and scenes on Roblox, was officially introduced by Roblox Corporation. Aimed at both developers and users, this open-source tool allows users to generate 3D models directly from text prompts.
According to Roblox’s statement, Cube 3D aims to generate everything from simple prompts, like a “red buggy with knobby tires,” to complex structures, such as entire racetracks. On top of that, the company plans to enable Cube 3D to understand image inputs in the future.
Roblox states that Cube 3D is trained on native 3D data, meaning objects generated through Cube are ready to be used in game engines without requiring additional conversion. Roblox’s Cube 3D also includes a beta launch of its mesh generation API, now available in Roblox Studio.
“We envision a future where developers will enable their users to become creators using AI,” said Anupam Singh, Vice President of Engineering, and Nick Tornow, Vice President of Creator Engineering at Roblox.
Cube 3D will allow developers to fine-tune the model, train it with custom data, and create plug-ins, further expanding its capabilities. Roblox is also positioning Cube 3D as a key part of the platform’s future, where it will evolve into a multimodal AI system capable of generating full scenes and understanding complex interactions between objects, environments, and players.
Cube 3D is now available in beta, and developers can start exploring its potential immediately. Roblox has promised more updates and features in the coming months as the model evolves.
It is worth noting that within the openness and transparency of AI tools, Roblox has earlier released an AI safety model and helped found ROOST (Robust Open Online Safety Tools), a nonprofit initiative dedicated to tackling important areas in digital safety with open-source safety tools.
In the fourth quarter of 2024, Roblox Corporation reported revenue of $988.2 million, marking a 32% year-over-year increase. For the full year of 2024, the company’s annual revenue reached $3.6 billion, up 29% from the previous year.
