New Discord Feature Allows Developers to Add Social Functions Directly In-Game

|
- Discord Social SDK allows social integration directly into games.
- The tool is for developers, not video game consumers.
- The feature includes friends lists, text and voice chat, and Discord client integration.
Discord’s new feature is catered towards video game developers, allowing devs to integrate communication functions directly into their games. The new feature is called Discord Social SDK, and is available across platforms.
Most of the features are available for free – except for Cross-platform messaging, Voice chat integration, and Linked Channels. These three are currently limited for free users, unlocking fully when participating in Discord’s closed beta.
Discord’s Social SDK provides game developers with features for closer integration, such as a unified in-game and Discord friends list. Players can also send and receive game invites through Discord alongside receive updates on in-game activity.
For game developers looking to implement this Discord feature, the official instructions and guidelines are posted on Discord’s web blog. The resources include the following: Core Concepts, Getting Started, Development Guides, Design Guidelines, and SDK Reference docs.
