Yakuza 8 (Ryū ga Gotoku 8) also known as Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, has won the Game Award at the 19th Seiyu Awards, recognizing its outstanding voice performances. The news was shared by Kazuhiro Nakaya, the voice of Yakuza 8‘s protagonist Ichiban Kasuga, who thanked fans for their support and posted a photo with fellow actor Takaya Kuroda. Kuroda voiced Kazuma Kiryu, the series’ main protagonist from its debut in 2005 until 2024.
Nakaya, who has been part of the Yakuza series for years, also voiced Akira Nishikiyama in Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami.
The 19th Seiyu Awards took place on March 15, 2025, celebrating top voice talent across multiple categories. The awards, established in 2007, introduced the Game category in 2019 to recognize outstanding performances in video games. This marks the first time a title from the Yakuza series has received this accolade.
The Yakuza series, known as Ryū ga Gotoku in Japan and recently co-branded as Like a Dragon in the West, debuted in 2005 and has since become one of Sega’s flagship franchises. As of October 2024, the series has sold over 28 million copies worldwide.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, released on January 26, 2024, sold over one million copies within its first week—making it the fastest-selling title in the series. The game has also received critical acclaim, earning a perfect score from Famitsu and securing nominations at The Game Awards 2024 and the 28th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards.
