Pokémon TCG Pocket has announced that it will remove the trade token requirement for trading in late Autumn 2025. Once the trading update drops, players will use shinedust instead as trading currency.

In a Twitter post, Pokémon TCG Pocket outlined the changes that the developers are planning to implement. The removal of trade tokens was something that players wanted to happen ever since its introduction to the game. Players heavily criticized the trade tokens calling it “insulting” and a “monumental failure.”

Once trade tokens are removed from the game, players will use shinedust as trade currency. Players will be able to obtain shinedusts through opening packs and obtaining a card that is already in the player’s card dex.

The developers have also addressed the fact that shinedusts are used to obtain card flairs. They are looking for ways to increase the amount of shinedusts players earn. Additionally, trade tokens that players have in possession will be turned into shinedusts once the patch drops.

Aside from these, the developers are looking into allowing players to trade promo cards and two-star rarity cards, both of which aren’t tradeable currently. They are also developing a feature that allows players to show which cards they are interested in trading.

Pokémon TCG Pocket’s trading patch was released in January 2025. The trading system was met with negative feedback from players due to the aforementioned inclusion of trade tokens and various restrictions. The developers have acknowledged the player feedback in a Twitter post.

Pokémon TCG Pocket was released in October 2024. Its latest expansion, Triumphant Light, was released on February 28 and features Arceus. As of December 2024, Pokémon TCG Pocket has more than 60 million players.
