Key points
  1. Analysts believe that Nintendo Switch 2 might be the biggest console launch ever.
  2. Analysts also believe that the Switch 2 will cost more than the Switch 1.
  3. Nintendo will hold a Direct on April 2 which is expected to reveal the price, release date, and performance of the Switch 2.

Analysts believe that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be the biggest console launch in history. But they are also expecting Nintendo to increase the price of the console, either due to tariffs or the components used by the console.

According to Bloomberg, analysts expect Nintendo to sell a lot of Switch 2 consoles in its first month. Robin Zhu of Sanford C. Bernstein, one of the analysts that Bloomberg has quoted, believes that Nintendo will have a first-day inventory of 6 million to 8 million units. If Nintendo is able to sell all the first-day stocks of the console in the first quarter, the company will dethrone Sony’s PlayStation 5 which sold 4.5 million units in the same time period.

Analysts are expecting these sales despite an anticipated increase in price of the console. According to Hideki Yasuda, an analyst at Toyo Securities, Nintendo might price the Switch 2 at $499. Yasuda believes that this price increase comes from the new Nvidia chips that Nintendo is likely to use to power the upcoming console. However, there is no credible information about the chip that powers the console.

Tariffs were also mentioned as a source of price increase. Analysts are mixed regarding this matter. Serkan Toto of Kantan Games, another analyst quoted in the Bloomberg article, believes that the tariffs will affect the pricing of the console. Yasuda, on the other hand, believes that Nintendo will assemble the Switch 2 in China and Vietnam. The company having an assembly in Vietnam might help Nintendo with minimizing its losses.

Nintendo will hold a Nintendo Switch 2 Direct on April 2. The direct is expected to reveal key information about the console including its performance, release date, and price.
