Key points

  1. Halo Infinite adds the Firefight Classic co-op mode, a mode fans have been requesting.
  2. Firefight Classic returns to the roots of Firefight: Four players, Seven lives, and A lot of monsters.
  3. Halo Infinite is the biggest Halo game in the Microsoft franchise.

One of the most requested modes, Firefight, has finally been added to Halo Infinite. Firefight has players team up with their friends and fight through hordes of enemies.

Firefight was first introduced in 2009 with Halo 3: ODST. Since then, the game mode has had various iterations, including a King of the Hill version which was the one Halo Infinite had. This time, Firefight returns to its roots with what the developers call “Firefight Classic.”

In Firefight Classic, four players will do their best to survive a “set.” According to the blog post the developers have posted, the breakdown of the mode’s progression is as follows:

  • One Round is comprised of five Waves of enemies.
  • Wave 1 is an easy wave.
  • Waves 2-4 are mid-tier difficulties.
  • Three Rounds (plus a Bonus Round) comprise a Set.

The developers also mentioned that the mode is endless, this means that as long as two players don’t step on the evac zone, the mode will continue until the whole team runs out of lives.

Players are given seven total lives in this mode. A death from one team member decreases that total by one, however, players will gain a life at the end of each set and for each 1000 points earned during the bonus round.

Halo Infinite was released in December 2021 and was received well by critics. The game received a generally favorable score from Metacritic. In January 2022, Microsoft announced that the game had crossed more than 20 million players and became the biggest Halo game in the franchise.
