Key points
  1. Verdansk is returning to Call of Duty: Warzone on April 3, 2025.
  2. The release coincides with the launch of Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 3, which were delayed for two weeks.
  3. Map return is confined to the 5th anniversary of Warzone.

Verdansk map is officially coming back to Call of Duty: Warzone on April 3, 2025, as the franchise celebrates the 5th anniversary of Warzone.

The comeback was first teased by Activision in August 2024, with a Spring 2025 return hinted at, but now it is clear that the return of Verdansk coincides with the launch of Black Ops 6 and Warzone’s delayed Season 3 update. Originally scheduled for March 20, the season’s release was pushed back by two weeks, with Activision noting that the delay was necessary to ensure a “great experience” for players when it goes live on April 3.

The importance of such a comeback is related to the fact that Verdansk defined the early days of Warzone as it was the only available battle royale map at the game’s launch on March 10, 2020. In December 2021, industrial Verdansk was replaced with a larger tropical map Caldera.

Verdansk hosted several major events within Warzone, including seasonal changes, limited-time modes, and narrative events tied to the game’s universe, such as:

  • The Haunting of Verdansk event happened in 2020, as during the Halloween season, the map underwent a spooky transformation. During that event, Verdansk was haunted by ghosts, and a dark, eerie atmosphere overtook the familiar areas with a special limited-time mode called Zombie Royale, introducing undead enemies and ghost-themed gameplay,
  • The Return of Verdansk ’84 took place in Season 3, 2021. As part of the Black Ops Cold War crossover, Warzone saw the release of Verdansk ’84, a re-imagined version of the map set in the 1980s. This version of Verdansk incorporated elements of Cold War’s storyline, including Cold War-era weapons, technology, and even the addition of characters tied to Black Ops Cold War,
  • The Nuke Event occurred on Dec. 7, 2021, when a mysterious nuclear missile was launched in Verdansk, triggering a massive explosion that destroyed parts of the map and ultimately led to the transition to Caldera. The event was tied to the storyline surrounding Warzone’s connection with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and the game’s ongoing battle between the Allegiance and Coalition factions.
