Key points
  1. Reviewers are praising AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT for the performance they provide at their price point.
  2. Outlets are recommending the AMD cards to gamers who can’t wait for Nvidia’s stock to stabilize.
  3. Nvidia is currently facing criticism for overpromising 4090-level performance on a $549 card, referring to the RTX 5070.

The reviews are in for AMD Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT and reviewers found RX 9070’s performance to be on par or even better than Nvidia’s RTX 5070. RX 9070 XT, when compared to GTX 5070 Ti, falls a bit short in performance, but is a killer when it comes to pricing.

Reviewers are praising the RX 9070 and 9070 XT’s performance. According to Eurogamer Digital Foundry’s testing, AMD’s RX 9070 has outperformed Nvidia’s RTX 5070 for about eight to ten percent. However, RX 9070 XT is beaten by RTX 5070 Ti by five percent at 4K resolution and three percent at 1440p. Digital Foundry’s testing has also found that the AMD cards are pulling in more power than Nvidia’s.

Ray tracing remains Nvidia’s playground, however. When reviewers tested the cards in Black Myth: Wukong, a game that heavily favors Nvidia’s ray tracing, both the Radeon RX 9070 XT and 9070 fell short of their Nvidia counterparts.

Despite that, AMD’s price makes it a much more enticing card than Nvidia’s. The RX 9070 is available for $549 while the RX 9070 XT goes for $599. For reference, the RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti goes for $549 and $749 respectively. Considering that the performance difference between 9070 XT and 5070 Ti isn’t huge, going for the RX 9070 XT was a recommendation echoed in multiple reviews.

Nvidia’s stock problems were also discussed in various reviews. According to Gizmodo, gamers looking for a new GPU but couldn’t wait for Nvidia’s “stock woes” to be over should consider the RX 9070 XT. “It’s the 4K upgrade you wanted,” their review reads.

Nvidia is going through a rough patch with different reviewers blasting their recently released RTX 5070 card. The company has promised an RTX 4090 performance on a $549 card, which intrigued the PC Gaming community when it was first announced. The claim has since been debunked, leaving reviewers disappointed.
