Key points

  1. Nexon is ending PS4 and Xbox One support for The First Descendant on June 19, 2025.
  2. The game’s all-time peak of concurrent players on Steam reached 264,860 on July 7, 2024.
  3. The First Descendant devs announced that the Season 2 Episode 2 Update is scheduled for March 13, 2025.

The First Descendant will no longer be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One starting June 19, according to Nexon’s announcement during the latest Dev Livestream.

The decision comes as Nexon aims to “increase player satisfaction,” citing challenges in maintaining the PS4 and Xbox One builds after expanding the game’s scale. While this means last-gen players will lose access, Nexon has confirmed that progress can be transferred to other platforms via the game’s cross-save feature. On top of that, developers announced that Season 2 Episode 2 Update is coming on March 13, 2025.

Launched on July 2, 2024, across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, The First Descendant gathered 10 million players within its first week on Steam. However, according to Steam Charts by SteamDB, the game averaged 8,227 players in February 2024, showing a significant downgrade from its all-time peak of 264,860 concurrent players on July 7, 2024.

Despite ending support for older hardware, Nexon remains committed to the game. The team appears focused on improving the experience for players on current-gen consoles and PC, aiming to refine its mechanics and retain its existing player base.
It is worth noting that soon after launch, The First Descendant faced scrutiny over its iconography, which players pointed out bore a striking resemblance to elements from Destiny 2. Nexon addressed the issue but didn’t provide much detail on the allegations.
