Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Devs Shut Down Live Service Rumors

Saber Interactive has clarified that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is not going to be a live service game. The confirmation came from a community update posted on February 28.

According to the post uploaded by the developers, they have become aware of the “cold feedback” regarding Space Marine 2’s community events. Players have been saying that these community events might generate fear of missing out for other players that might not be able to participate, similar to how other live service games handle their battle passes. In an attempt to minimize player stress, the developers reassured players that they are not looking to transform the game into something similar.

“The items available through events will be available later, for everyone.” the post reads. The community events are there for dedicated players to unlock the items earlier, according to Saber Interactive. The developers have also apologized for the bugs that have been present in community events as players have run into issues when trying to unlock the item.

The community post also includes the newest updates regarding version 7.0 of the game which includes private PvP lobbies, a new weapon that’s going to be available in PvE, as well as a PvE Prestige Rank. Horde Mode was also mentioned, but the developers have nothing to show yet. All they said was that it’s going to be “very different from the Space Marine 1 Horde Mode”.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 was released in September 2024. The game received a “generally favorable” review from Metacritic across all of the platforms it was released on. Space Marine 2 was also nominated for two awards in The Game Awards 2024 namely Best Action Game and Best Multiplayer Game.
