Key points
  1. Monster Hunter Wilds peaks at 1.38 million players on Steam, ranking fifth in all-time peak player count.
  2. PUBG tops Steam’s all-time charts with 3.25 million peak players, followed by Black Myth: Wukong and Palworld.
  3. PC version faces major performance issues, with Eurogamer advising against it due to poor optimization.

One day after launch, Monster Hunter Wilds continues to break records on Steam, reaching a peak of 1,384,608 concurrent players earlier today, according to PC Gamer. At the time of writing, the game sits at 1.2 million active players, surpassing Dota 2 and Lost Ark to claim the fifth-highest peak player count in Steam history.

Counter-Strike 2/Global Offensive holds the fourth spot with an all-time peak of 1.8 million players. PUBG: Battlegrounds remains the most-played game in Steam history with a record 3.25 million concurrent players, followed by Black Myth: Wukong at 2.22 million, and Palworld in third with 2.1 million.

While being a critical and commercial success, Monster Hunter Wilds has faced significant technical issues on PC, with players reporting crashes, frame drops, and severe graphical problems. Many have struggled with low performance on lower-end graphics cards, even after updating drivers and tweaking settings. Console versions also suffer from frame rate inconsistencies and low-resolution textures, though to a lesser degree.

Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry has advised against the PC version, citing poor optimization and “staggeringly bad performance on lower-end hardware” while offering only modest visual upgrades over console versions. Capcom has acknowledged the issues and is working on fixes, recommending players keep their drivers and system updates current in the meantime.
