Key points

  1. Tekken 8 surpassed 3 million copies sold in just one year.
  2. Game’s Season 2 will introduce new characters.
  3. Tekken 7 sold 12 million units in 10 years after launch.

Tekken 8 has officially sold 3 million copies in a year after its release in January 2024. The data was confirmed during the livestream TEKKEN Talk Live: SEASON 2 SPECIAL, where the first DLC character for Season 2 was revealed as well.

According to Bandai Namco, Tekken 8 outpaces the sales performance of the seventh numbered part of the fighting series. On top of that, Tekken 8 sold its first 2 million within the first month on the market.

Bandai Namco shared its excitement during a livestream, thanking players for their continued support: “We hope that everyone will stick with us, as we have a lot of cool stuff planned to keep the franchise going.”

However, even as Tekken 8 celebrates, it’s still behind some of its competitors in the fighting game world by the total number of copies sold. NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat 1 recently hit 5 million copies sold, while Street Fighter 6 has reached 4.4 million copies since their respective launches in 2023.
