Key points

  1. U.S. President Trump’s tariffs are already affecting Acer.
  2. Acer is thinking of diversifying where it is manufacturing its laptops. America being is one of the options.
  3. Acer’s most expensive laptop retails for around $3,099. If the 10% price increase is applied, it will cost around $3,408.

Acer is set to increase their prices by 10% as President Trump continues to issue tariffs. The company aims for the increase to take place within the following weeks.

Jason Chen, the CEO and President of Acer, said in an interview with The Telegraph that the prices of laptops made in China will increase by 10% due to Donald Trump’s tariffs. Since Acer manufactures most of its laptops in China, they’re one of the companies that will be affected.

According to Chen, Acer is also looking into moving manufacturing to the United States to not be hit by the tariffs. Chen also mentioned that they’ve already moved the assembly of their desktop computers after President Trump has issued tariffs against Chinese products back in 2018, his first term in office.

Chen is also aware that some companies will use the tariffs as an excuse to increase their prices. According to The Telegraph, almost 80% of laptops being imported to the United States are all manufactured from China. However, other tech companies have already been slowly diversifying their supply chains.

Apple has already started moving away from its dependency on China in 2022. According to the New York Times, Apple wants to move some of its iPhone production to India. Google is following suit, with some of its Pixel phone productions happening in Vietnam instead.

According to Statista, Acer is the fifth most popular computer brand in the United States. The most expensive laptop on their store currently is the Predator Helios 18 Gaming Laptop which retails for about $3,099. If the price were to increase by 10%, the price of this laptop would reach around $3,408.
